AES owns and operates AES Chivor, a 1,000 MW hydroelectric power plant in Colombia that is a subsidiary of AES Gener. AES Chivor is located 160 kilometers northeast of Bogotá and has the third largest installed capacity of all facilities in Colombia. Overall, AES Chivor is Columbia’s fourth largest power generator, representing approximately 8% of the country’s total power capacity.

AES Chivor makes a concerted effort to give back to the communities it serves. Among a variety of initiatives, the company has created the “Support to Children with Special Educational Needs” program. Through sporting and cultural programs, the initiative helps educate children with disabilities and their families on how live with hope. The program has raised awareness among the community about the possibilities and opportunities that these children have for leading productive, happy lives.
