AES is the largest private power generator in the Dominican Republic. In 2003, we introduced natural gas to the country when we began operation of AES Andres, a combined 319 MW gas-fired plant and LNG regasification terminal. Located 35 kilometers east of Santo Domingo, AES Andres also supplies AES Los Mina, a 236 MW generation plant that AES converted to gas-fired operations in 2003. These two plants represent approximately 30% of the country’s total generation capacity.

AES owns shares in a generation company in the Dominican Republic, Itabo, which includes five thermoelectric generation facilities totaling 433 MW.

Through all of its businesses, AES and its people in the Dominican Republic take an active role in helping raise the quality of life in communities across the country. AES people have constructed and renovated classrooms, funded programs to improve potable water and waste management, have brought medical supplies and assistance to areas in need, especially in response to hurricanes and floods, and provided aid to needy children.

A Global Presence

Introducing natural gas into the Dominican Republic
An essential source of clean, affordable energy now powers a large portion of the Dominican Republic, thanks to liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology and the initiative of AES.
