In October 2006, AES expanded its wind generation business into France with the purchase of a minority interest in InnoVent SAS, an independent, privately-held developer of wind energy projects in France. AES currently holds interest in four wind farm sites located in the northeastern region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, near the Belgian border.
In 2006, installed wind generation capacity in France more than doubled from 2005 levels, surpassing the 1,000 MW threshold. In addition, wind powered generation is expected to increase by over 4,000 MW by 2010. AES's investments in the region will provide a solid base on which to build the company’s presence in this market.
